The art of the pin-up has
arguably been with mankind from the days of cavepainting.
Some of the great art of any civilization depicts women
in suggestive pose. Was this because the artists were exclusively
men? The clients? Your guess is as good as mine because,
I don't care!
The development of the printing press, alongside looser
morality, made the scandalous available to everyone. And,
while it can be argued that pornography (Or, more specifically,
man's desire for titilation) has driven such technologies
such as video and even the internet to their present heights,
there was an earlier time when all that counted was the
fleeting glimpse, the tease, the promise of something more,
something forbidden...

The pin-up masters of this century
were versed not only in the female form, but were important
figures in the world of illustration, advertising and brand
awareness. The Quaker from Quaker Oats, the Coppertone
Girl, a laughing Santa enjoying
a Coca Cola were all entered into the publics consciouness
by these artists we celebrate here!
In addition to this information, check out my outlines
on how comic artists and photographers
have contributed to the pin-up genre.
