Mail Art Gallery
'Mail Art' is a form of public folk art where
each piece is a creative expression of an individual sent through
public mail. There are some great Mail Art sites, such as The
Electronic Museum of Mail Art, and groups on the net if
you would like further information.
I have placed a 'call' for artists to try to come
up with a contemporary interpretation of the Mutoscope/Pin-Up
genre. The specifics are as follows:
Theme: "Contemporary Mutoscope Pin-Up Cards"
Mutoscope cards, printed in the 1940s and distributed via
arcade machines, measure 5.25" by 3.25". Although they were
not designed to be used as postcards, some vendors printed the
blank reverses to be sent in the mail. This site has samples
of the 200+ cards produced. Feel free to peruse the on-line
collection for inspiration. I have been generating around 30-40
hits a day and will be promoting the upcoming exhibit on the
home page and through my usual channels.
Deadline: July 1, 2002
Media: Postcard
Size: Maximum 4" x 6"
Send to: Kevin Freeman, 14 Soundview Avenue, no. 54, White
Plains, NY 10606 or kevin@mutoworld.com
No jury, no returns, no fees. Let me know how you would
like credit for your work if/when it appears in the gallery.
I can make your email or web site available if you want. I also
have an e-postcard page if you'd like to have your work available
to send. Thanks.
Below is just an example of how I will show submissions.
I may change the top menu items, but will try to maintain the
consistant 'look and feel' for the rest of the site.
